  • Incubator and Water Bath to Expand Microbiology Labs at the Hill: replace the unusable 1973 unit. The new unit will allow students to conduct safe experiments in relation to bacterial transformation, DNA, antibiotic resistance, among many others. Made possible by a Karl Storz grant (2019)
  • Weight Room Transformation: new treadmill and changes to allow the weight room to be more user friendly and help implement new curriculum in PE classes. (2018)  
  • 3D Printing to Enhance Project-Based Science Curriculum: students will print models of complex molecular concepts and create unique lab apparatuses. Made possible by a Karl Storz grant (2018)
  • Enhancing Life Sciences with Digital Microscopes: digital microscopes and camera technology; connect to chromebooks and update current life science classes to technology, allowing students to import photos of actual samples into lab reports. Made possible by a Karl Storz grant (2016)
  • Engaging Readers Project: e-readers for each 9th & 10th grade English inclusion classroom to help reluctant readers become more motivated and confident (2015)
  • Literacy Diversity of Ethnicity or Gender: books for grade 9 literature classes to expand reading options to include a concentrated emphasis on either non-Caucasian ethnicity or with female characters/authors (2015)
  • Missa Festiva: students in the 4 academic choirs at Shepherd Hill will learn and perform Missa Festiva” accompanied by a chamber orchestra (professional players). Presented as part of the annual Winter Concert which is shared with Dudley and Charlton grade 8 choirs. The Grade 8 choirs will participate as well. (2014)
  • Vivaldi ‘Gloria’: students in the 4 academic choirs at Shepherd Hill will learn and perform Vivaldi’s “Gloria” in its entirety accompanied by a chamber orchestra (professional players). Presented as part of the annual Winter Concert which is shared with Dudley and Charlton grade 8 choirs. The Grade 8 choirs will participate in the opening chorus (Gloria) and closing chorus (Cum Sancto Spiritu) with the high school choirs. (2013)
  • Poetry Alive: Poetry Alive!® empowers educators to prepare 21st century learners with critical thinking activities, in-depth analysis and communication skills. Program partners with educators to prepare students to thrive in the interconnected and diverse world community. High-energy performances and interactive workshops provide students with a more in-depth exploration of literary analysis, writing, and speaking skills.(2013)
  • Tablets for Digital Editing and Drawing: tablets will enable students to create with a pen on canvas rather than with the mouse allowing for more detailed and precise marks and edits; this up-to-date technological tool professional designers use, allows for better preparation of students to enter the digital age (2013)
  • Hoop Dreams with Chris Herron: Bring Chris Herren and his Hoops of Dreams program to all Shepherd Hill students (2012)
  • AP Essentials Physics Probeware Series: physics probeware for a new AP Physics class; the equipment will permit the students to go beyond conceptual learning with hands-on experiments. Made possible by KARL STORZ grant (2012)
  • Family Writing Evening: students and family members are invited to attend an evening of writing together, sharing memories, while observing the writing process (2011)
  • Friends on the Hill: expand opportunities of general education and students in the school’s STRIVE program to interact socially. General education students will gain experience to help evaluate a path of pursuing studies in special education. (2011)
  • Environmental Testing Using Vernier Sensors: testing equipment will afford greater club participation to analyze local soil and water samples; equipment will also be used in regular science classes. Made possible by Spiewak Family Grant (2011)
  • Smart Music: equipment and annual subscriptions and licenses for access to over 30,000 song files and 50,000 exercises. Software will provide immediate and documented feedback on individual student performances, measuring pitch and rhythm (2011)
  • Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS): 20 high school students collaborate with Capen Hill Nature Sanctuary to develop an interactive display showing the difference between modern and traditional weather instruments; focusing on enhancing science and mathematics skills while providing a valuable community service.   • Rachel’s Challenge Year 2- Continuation of Rachel’s Challenge Program: Rachel Scott was the first person killed at Columbine High School and her acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of her six diaries have become the foundation for one of the most life-changing school programs in America. (2010)
  • Broadway Connect: attend master classes with members of the Broadway cast of “Wicked”. Students work to perfect their vocal technique, ensemble performance, choreography, makeup, and special effects skills. Seven visiting artists provide a connection to Broadway through workshops in dance, audition techniques, scene study, and theater photography. Members of the band and chorus rehearse with the Boston show’s musical director. The program culminates with an evening concert with student performers, joined by a faculty choir. (2010)
